Serie A Betting

Serie A has been popular with UK football fans since the early 90s when it was home to the best players in the world and matches were shown on Channel 4’s Football Italia show. A lot has changed since then, but Italy’s premier division is still as exciting as it ever was. Napoli cantered to the Scudetto in the 2022/2023 season to end a 33 year wait for the title. Inter Milan (or Internationazle to the Football hipsters), were runners-up in the Champions League and bagged the Coppa Italia last season, so are strong favourites this time around.

At LiveScore Bet we offer a wide range of betting markets and Serie A odds, so you can place money on your favorite teams throughout the season.

Serie A League History

Founded in 1929, Serie A is the highest-level league within the Italian football league system. Despite Juventus dominating the Italian league with a total of 36 championship titles, it has been AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Napoli who have won the title in more recent years. Since the late 1920s, Italian teams who won the Serie A championship the previous season were awarded the Scudetto. The Scudetto, aka ‘little shield’, is a badge that consists of the Italian flag colours, worn on the previous winner’s kits.

The season is split into 2 halves and in the first half of the season, the ‘andata’, teams will play a total of 19 games either at home or away. In the second half of the season, called the ritorno, they play against their opponent again but the home and away matches are reversed.

Teams are awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. However, prior to 1994, teams were only awarded 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. At the end of the season, the 3 lowest-scoring teams in Serie A are relegated to Serie B. Alternatively the 3 highest scoring teams in Serie B are promoted to Serie A.
